The Minnesota Chapter, NECA, was chartered in 1952. After word spread of the desire to charter what would become the Minneapolis Chapter, the Minnesota Chapter was renamed the St. Paul Chapter, NECA.
In 1953, a group of five local electrical contractors founded the Upper Midwest Chapter, NECA. In addition to Minneapolis and Southern Minnesota, the jurisdiction included North and South Dakota. In 1961, the jurisdictions were adjusted to match the jurisdictions of IBEW Locals 292 and 343 and the Chapter was renamed the Minneapolis Chapter, NECA.
Since their founding in 1952 and 1953, there have been efforts to merge the St. Paul and Minneapolis Chapters. In 2024, members of the St. Paul and Minneapolis Chapters voted to merge. The merger was completed in 2025 and the Twin Cities Chapter, NECA, was born.
